In the Dark

In the Dark

I really scared

I want my mama to sleep with me

All night long

Daddy too

And Baby Stella

Then I not be scared

All night long

I not like the bad things

At night in the dark

I cannot see them anymore

Monsters

Black, claws, tear you away

A meat dinosaur steps on the roof

I call for mama again

It is dark outside

Light inside the kitchen and wrapped

In mama’s bathrobe

Reading storybooks

Waiting for sleep

Daddy's Circle: A Poem in Celebration of Father's Day

Daddy’s Circle

I remember being little

I was scared of getting sick

I was scared of dying

You so gently and fiercely

Told me that you knew

I would live a long time

You have a sense for these things

There was no need to be scared

You said, and I lived on that faith

Now that small child is all grown up

And funny, how you were right

There is no need to be scared

I am alive

Death is birth

and birth is death of something else

I am alive as the circle

that never has an end

My Stella

My Stella

My babe is 4 months old
Stella Bella
Stelly Belly
Stellar Baby

She is chewing
and drooling and
looking looking looking!

Sometimes sleepy
sometimes sleeping
then wide awake
rolling kicking scooting!

her eyes dance
as she watches me
she smiles
and her whole body breathes
