Revisiting Coupeville's "Town Park": playground, concerts, cookhouse, bbq, tennis, and more

This is the best slide around. It is tall, metal, and steep. Great for a adventurous four-year old and a one-year old who thinks she is invincible (with a parent of course). Yesterday I revisited a park form my past: Town Park in Coupeville (at NW Coveland and Colburn Streets). The park is located on 3.8 acres above (to the north-west) of downtown Coupeville. When I visited it was an idyllic sunny day with fluffy clouds gently sailing overhead. My husband and I brought our take-out lunch to the park with our two kids and enjoyed the water view through the trees, the little daisies covering the field and the slide. Mostly, the slide. Marina loved it. She climbed up the stairs and slid down the slide over and over. Then she began, as kids always do, to climb up the slide and slide back down, forget the stairs.

The park has an open grassy field, an outdoor pavilion for concerts and other social events, a large cookhouse, BBQ, picnic tables, tennis courts, bathrooms, and a playground with a climbing dome, slide, and big kids swings (sorry no baby swings). Much of the park overlooks Penn Cove and there is a trail that goes to the beach.

I remember this park when I was a kid, visiting it with my parents to see the "Concerts on the Cove" series. We would play hard and walk down to town and get ice cream at the local ice cream parlor, Kapaw's Iskreme, which by the way is wonderful! Your Sneak Peak: New Playground at Soccer Fields on Langley Road

At the soccer fields on Langley Road there is this great new kid's playground. It was taped off with caution tape on the soccer field side, and we only had to move a fence to get in. It might have still been officially closed. . . it looked like a brand new toy, that had never been played with, hee hee. The only thing that looked unfinished were a couple of short drainage holes. We will be coming back to it again that's for sure. It reminded me of a cool playground we visited in Boulder Colorado (only this one is smaller) because it has some climbing rocks. I don't know of ANY other parks on South Whidbey that have climbing rocks. So it is also unique, and well located. You can walk into the woods on well maintained trails (bike anyone?). A short 1/2 mile hike takes you to the Community Park (Castle Park) on Maxwelton Rd. Or you could explore some of the many more trails in the woods.

There are two climbing rocks that are connected by a climbing rope. Lots of fun for the kids.

Brand new "double" slide. Not to slippery, but great for kids to climb up and down the way they like to! Marina and her friends were both able to run down the slide (yeah, I was scared!). The slide is so perfect and new that you can see your reflection.

Our New Favorite Park: Forest Park in Everett WA

We had a lot of fun at Forest Park, in Everett last week. There is a public pool, outdoor playground and water park, petting zoo, and lots of forest trails, click here to see a park map. Marina kept saying, "This is a great day!" We will have to come back to play in the pool and check out the petting zoo, as we did not have enough time to do this when we last visited. I highly recommend visiting this park, especially if you are a family on South Whidbey: you will appreciate the public pool and BIG park with water features. I'm sure any kid could spend HOURS or even days exploring this park.
If you want to visit it from Whidbey Island, take the Mulkilteo/ Clinton Ferry and take the first left (at the stop light) after unloading from the ferry. Follow this road as it winds through homes on the water. As you drive into a forested area, you will see flowers planted along the road and evergreens behind them. The park entrance is close.
